Product Review: Plaine Products Refillable Face Wash and Face Lotion

Product Review: Plaine Products Refillable Face Wash and Face Lotion

What: Plaine Products Face Wash and Face Lotion

It’s been almost two years since I moved away from my go-to Neutrogena face wash and moisturizer and into the world of using just oil on my face. I have to say that it was a very good decision and frankly, it seemed counter-intuitive at first. I am one of those people that would start getting a shiny face mid afternoon. It was just the way it was.

Fast forward to letting go of chemicals to put on my face in favor of a simpler and easier morning routine, my combination of rosehip oil + argan oil + lavender oil has worked wonders. I will also add too that my diet has changed away from alcohol, sugar and processed foods so I think that has helped as well.

I continue to use my oil mix, but have decided to try Plaine Products new face wash and moisturizer. I am a big fan of the Plaine Shampoo and Conditioner which I have now been using for a full year. My full review and updates here on the shampoo and conditioner.

This post contains affiliate links. See Disclosures for details. I don’t remember if I funded the Kickstarter for this or the product was given to my by the Plaine Team, but regardless, I would would have wanted to try it out anyways.

My Current Face Routine:

  • Wash face with my own DIY sugar scrub recipe every other day made of sugar + argan oil + rosehip oil +lavender oil + tea tree oil. Recipe here.

  • Moisturize face with rosehip oil + argan oil + lavender oil

This has worked well for me for the past two years now. I rarely change something that works because why mess with it. Side note: A lot of the beauty products out there are basically the same formula just marketing differently so it’s something we have to be aware of it. Sometimes when I do put the oil moisturizer, it doesn’t absorb as quickly so I try to do it immediately after washing my face so that it has time to be absorbed before I leave the house.

The face scrub also works well, but some days I’m honestly just too lazy to spend the time to really scrub my face so I wanted something quick. My sugar scrub also remains in the shower in a large container and I simply don’t want to have to move it back and forth from the sink to the shower.

This is why I wanted to try out the Plaine Face Wash and Moisturizer.

  • Background

    • Plaine Products is a company that makes natural shampoo, conditioner and body wash. They adopt a circular, earth friendly business model and provide a subscription service for their products. Once you finish a product, you can sign-up to get a refill of their products in their aluminum packaging. The only plastic that is provided are for the pumps and the pumps can be used over and over again. This is a great way to reduce single-use plastic.

  • Scent

    • Light Citrus Scent - very light and not over powering at all.

  • Application Type

    • Pump style that can be opened and closed

  • Ingredients (straight from the Plaine Products site)

    • Face Wash: Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Sodium Cocoyl Hydrolyzed Soy Protein and Oryza (Rice) Extract, Coconut c8-16 (Plant Based Fatty Alcohol), Glucose (Corn Starch), Glycerin, Carrageen (Red Algae Extract), Sorbitan Caprylate (Cocoa Oil), Propanediol (Corn Oil), Benzoic Acid (Vegetable Based), Citrus Paradisi (Pink Grapefruit) Essential Oil, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Citrus Sinensis (Sweet Orange) Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Flower Extract, Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Oil, Sodium Ascorbic Phosphate (Vitamin C) and Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract (Green Tea).

    • Face: Moisturizer: Aloe barbadensis Leaf Juice, Carthamus Tinctorius (safflower) seed oil, Cetearyl Olivate & Sorbitan Olivate, Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot) Kernel Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Microcrystalline Cellulose and Algin, Glycerin, Allantoin, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Sclerotium Gum, Sorbitan Caprylate (and) Propanediol (and) Benzoic Acid, Rosa Canina (Rose Hips) Fruit Oil , Citrus Paradisi (Grapefruit) Oil, Citrus Sinensis (Sweet Orange) Oil, Citrus Limonium (Lemon) Oil, Tocopheryl Acetate.

  • Product Packaging

    • Both face wash and moisturizer are in aluminum containers with plastic pumps that you can turn to seal.

  • Cost

    • Around $33 for both face wash and moisturizer. You can follow Plaine Products on Instagram as they run promotions often.

  • Where to Buy

    • Currently on their website, plaineproducts.com

  • Shipping Packaging

    • For both the face wash and moisturizer, both came in one box packed with brown craft paper paper with subscription instructions. No plastic here! I will re-use the box and paper for some items I am selling on eBay on my continuing quest to declutter.

My current beauty stash. Oils are also used for hair and my face scrub and mixed together. I’m switching between oils and Plaine depending on needs and mood.

Verdict

  • This is a buy for me.

  • The light citrus scent easily diffuses after application so there’s no reminder that you have something on. It gets absorbed very quickly and keeps my face moisturized throughout the day with no added oiliness.

  • This is a plus to me too because my husband can use it without issues so we can share a face wash and moisturizer which means less stuff in the bathroom. He has a beard and can easily be worked in because the formula is so light. This product is meant for women and men.

  • I’m Filipino so have a natural tan and thankfully this doesn’t whiten my face.

  • One minus though is that there’s no SPF so that’s something I have to be aware of if I know I’m going to be out of the sun for a long period of time.

  • The face wash is easy to use, doesn’t generate a lot of suds, which is actually good since it means you need less water to wash it off and it doesn’t dry out my skin. Of course, we all have different skin so a trial is absolutely necessary, but also do keep in mind that it takes a few tries for the body to get used to something.

  • I like that the pumps can be sealed because I can easily take it on a trip without worrying about it spilling. It’s 2.7 ounces so well within the airplane travel limit.

  • Love the fact that it's also sulfates, parabens and phthalates free with vegan and non-GMO ingredients. Also love the fact that it doesn’t have a lot of marketing on the front and no promises. Just what it is and what it’s made of.

  • It has a clean rating with ThinkDirty and is a certified B Corp which fits into my criteria for supporting businesses that have people, planet and profit in mind.

  • You can't go wrong with plastic free packaging and a circular business model

Have you tried this product? What are your thoughts?
